A serious workplace accident occurred over the weekend at Sydney Airport in Australia. A female Qantas Airways employee, approximately 40 years old, suffered severe injuries after falling from a height of about five meters while working at Terminal 3. The worker sustained serious head injuries, was transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and was reported to have fallen into a coma.
Qantas and airport management announced that an investigation has been launched in cooperation with the New South Wales workplace safety authority, SafeWork NSW. The investigation will particularly focus on whether health and safety protocols were adequately followed during the use of a teletrap.
In a statement made by Qantas, it was emphasized that the health and recovery of their employee is their top priority. It was also stated that the company may review its internal safety protocols depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
